Roofs for the Roofless is a secular Non-Government Organisation (NGO) registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act and the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act.
Roofs runs comprehensive rural development projects in 18 villages south of Chennai in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu, building healthy, vibrant, economically sustainable rural communities. Roofs work is organized through seven programs based on community development principles that form its overarching program. The programs are, Education, Health, Women's Empowerment, Child and Youth Rights, Aged Care and Veterinary Care. These programs are based in the belief that impoverished rural communities can transform themselves if they are empowered with proven practical interventions. Roofs believes that the poor are not only those with the lowest socio-economic status but also those deprived of services like health, education, employment, housing, safe drinking water and other aspects of human well being.
